ULTRACLEAN

Innovative ultrasonic antifouling system for
Membrane Bioreactors (MBR) in wastewater treatment

Challenge

Membrane bioreactors have been widely used in wastewater treatment and reclamation. Exactly like all other pressure driven membrane filtration processes, there are inherent challenges encountered and a main limiting step in MBRs is membrane fouling.

Physical (e. g., air scouring or backflushing) and chemical cleaning (e. g., acids or oxidants) are the most common membrane cleaning method used for fouling removal in MBRs. However, these processes have limited cleaning capacity as well as high economic costs and environmental impacts.

Technology

ULTRACLEAN technology is an innovate system is able to prevent membrane fouling in MBRs through ultrasonic technique.

The technological solution is comprised by three modules monitoring     (i. e., sensors), control (i. e., software) and cleaning  (i. e., ultrasounds).

The new innovative ultrasonic antifouling system is automatic, versatile and is capable of operating simultaneous with the filtration process of MBR system.
